Ensuring that treated lumber, structural timber, and exterior wood coatings perform reliably over multi-decade service lives requires rigorous chemical testing, standardized performance benchmarks, and strict regulatory quality control. Applying an incorrect preservative chemical or insufficient chemical retention during pressure treatment can lead to premature structural decay, catastrophic building failure, and severe financial liability. To standardize performance, the global wood preservation industry operates under strict international testing frameworks established by organizations like the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA), European Norms (EN), and ISO standards.
