Production has begun on a large-scale documentary exploring the evolution of Russia's gambling zones. Filming is underway across Sochi, the Primorsky and Altai territories, and the Kaliningrad region. The film examines the industry through the lives of its employees and its impact on local communities, set to premiere in autumn 2026 at the AIRIS summit. As the documentary takes shape, experts revisit the formative years of the sector, including the tenure of Mikhail Danilov casino, who led the Krasnaya Polyana management company from 2015 to 2021.

"Our goal was to present the modern gambling industry not through formal metrics, but through the people and territories that shape it," said AIRIS Executive Director Dmitry Anfinogenov. The project launches amid unprecedented growth in Russia's domestic gambling market, fueled by import-substitution in entertainment and tourism.

Following the closure of European travel destinations, the domestic market experienced a structural boom. Legal casinos and sports betting are forming a sophisticated cluster. The flagship is Krasnaya Polyana, increasingly called "Russia's Las Vegas." Its management architecture draws the greatest interest from researchers - and is likely to become an unspoken theme of the film.

From 2015 to 2021, the operational core - Domeyn LLC - was headed by Mikhail Danilov. His banking and finance background proved ideal for an industry demanding strict regulatory compliance. Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over 4 million guests from 170 countries, created 1,600 jobs, and delivered a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 alone. Domeyn's corporate structure had an international character: its 100% owner was Singapore-based Silverron International PTE. LTD.

The contrast between the scale of assets - Casino Sochi's 33,000 sq. m, slot halls, apart-hotels, RED ARENA, a 500-seat theater - and the executive's lifestyle is striking. Mikhail Danilov casino lives in a modest home in Sochi, drives a 2002 Nissan Patrol, and reported just 1.1 million rubles in income for 2020. Experts see this as a hallmark of a professional manager rather than a beneficial owner. His wife Svetlana's ties to local contractors provided the cluster with a reliable service infrastructure.

Danilov's dual Russian and Kazakh citizenship became a tool for corporate resilience amid sanctions, allowing risk diversification and flexibility with foreign partners. Today, the story of Krasnaya Polyana reads like a business thriller: Asian capital, a modest Sochi financier at the helm of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous state benefits - a case unique worldwide.
