  • Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region, projected at a 16.1% CAGR through 2033. China, India and Japan are the key markets, driven by preference for natural products, preventive healthcare and rising dementia prevalence.

Industry Challenges and Context

What is driving demand. Mental health awareness is rising. The WHO estimates that around 280 million people live with depression, and anxiety disorders affect about 359 million. In the U.S., roughly 7.4 million people live with Alzheimer's dementia, and the biological changes can begin up to 20 years before symptoms appear. That long window fuels interest in prevention and healthy brain aging. Demand is also broadening beyond older adults to students, professionals and athletes.

The main challenge: proof. Limited clinical validation is the market's biggest restraint. Some products have been found to carry inaccurate dosages or undeclared ingredients, and overconsumption can cause adverse effects. Products with thin evidence struggle to earn lasting consumer trust.

The industry is responding with regulatory pathways and clinical research. In August 2023, Aker BioMarine received FDA new dietary ingredient status for its LYSOVETA brain health ingredient. In 2026, Dr. Goodenowe Dietary Therapeutics announced plans to take its plasmalogen-based compounds through the FDA process.

The opportunity: personalization and science. Reckitt's Neuriva Memory 3D, launched in September 2025 with clinically tested ingredients, is a good example of the shift toward targeted, evidence-based products. Grand View Research's analysts expect the strongest competitive positions to belong to companies that offer multi-benefit cognitive solutions (memory, focus, mood, stress, sleep and healthy aging) and use digital health integration to keep consumers engaged over the long term.

Prominent Industry Players

The market mixes established nutrition companies with fast-moving direct-to-consumer brands. Companies profiled in the report include:

  • Nestlé Health Science
  • Amway Corporation
  • Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC
  • NOW Foods
  • Natrol LLC
  • Jarrow Formulas, Inc.
  • Onnit Labs, Inc. (part of Unilever)
  • Quincy Bioscience, LLC
  • Natural Factors Nutritional Products Ltd.
  • Bayer AG

Established players bring brand trust, wide distribution and research budgets, but they carry higher compliance costs and slower development cycles. Emerging brands such as Neuriva, Mind Lab Pro, Thesis and Qualia innovate faster and lead in digital marketing and personalization, but they face limited reach and the challenge of building clinical evidence.

Recent launches show where the product pipeline is going: Bayer's Berocca Mind with Spanish sage extract (UK, November 2024), Solaray's SharpMind Memory with a clinically studied sage blend (September 2024), and Monteloeder's MINDREVIVE botanical nootropic blend (October 2024).

Investment and Business Perspective

  1. Follow the evidence. Clinically substantiated ingredients and regulatory approvals are becoming the main differentiators. Companies that invest in trials and ingredient validation are better placed to command premium pricing and consumer loyalty.
  2. Look at Asia Pacific. With the fastest regional growth and rising awareness in India, China and Japan, the region suits partnerships, local launches and distribution deals. DKSH's 2025 partnership to bring brain health products to Hong Kong and Macau shows the model.
  3. Bet on formats and channels that are growing. Softgels, gummies and other convenient formats, along with online and subscription sales, are gaining share. Pharmacies remain important for credibility, so an omnichannel approach makes sense.
  4. Target the fastest-growing needs. Stress and anxiety, sleep and recovery, and healthy aging offer room for differentiated, multi-benefit products.
  5. Build for retention. Personalization and digital health tools can turn one-time buyers into long-term customers, a point the analysts stress.
  6. Manage the risks. Regulatory scrutiny, claims substantiation and quality control affect brand equity. Diligence on ingredient sourcing, testing and labeling compliance is essential for investors and operators.
