Look up any list of the best FOX Knives, and that list is liable to contain a mention of the Chilin and Kita. But you know what else is a popular FOX Knife? The Zero 2.0 Desert Warrior.

Let’s take a closer look at it in this post and see if you don’t want one for yourself by the end of this.

Unpacking the Features of the FOX Knives Zero 2.0 Desert Warrior

First, let’s cover the specifications of the Zero 2.0 Desert Warrior with a BECUT steel blade and a gray FRN handle.

The knife is 6.5” overall, with a 2.76” leaf-shaped blade with thumb hole deployment and a lockback mechanism.

Blade thickness is .12”, it’s full-flat ground, and the knife weighs only 1.98 ounces, very light, thanks in part to the FRN scales.

Now, to the soft features. Let’s talk about the leaf-shaped blade. It’s made from BECUT steel, a little-known alloy that sports excellent corrosion resistance and edge retention capabilities.

This alloy is rich in chromium, and at 14.5%, offers a degree of corrosion resistance that’s similar to steels in the 440 class.

At the same time, with .72% carbon, almost 2% molybdenum, and roughly half a percent each of manganese and vanadium, it is very strong, very hard, and very wear resistant.

BECUT also has a touch of niobium, an element that’s only rarely added to steel alloys, but which improves hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance.

The shape of the blade is another winning feature. The leaf-shaped profile is capable of making graceful, arcing cuts and sweeps, and retains a lot of stock near the tip, for a stronger knife point.

Deployment is also a bonus; this knife sports a thumb hole that is naturally ambidextrous. With its blade profile and thumb hole deployment, it’s vaguely reminiscent of a Spyderco.

The scales are great, too. FRN, which stands for fiberglass-reinforced nylon, is very lightweight and very strong. It offers a solid grip in all conditions, and requires effectively no maintenance, yet is considerably lighter than both G10 and micarta. One might even call it deceptively light for its strength.

The ergonomics of the handle are another thing that make this knife not only unique, but distinctly likeable. The handle has a graceful curve inward, which not only helps with indexing, but with surety of grip as well as comfort.

The inward arc of the handle’s curvature helps a user maintain a lot of leverage when bearing down on the blade to cut or slice through a material, especially using a downward, pushing stroke.

The lockback mechanism is a classic. It isn’t as modern as a button lock or a bar lock, but it is familiar, reliable, unlikely to fail, and more importantly, very strong.

Notably, the lockback mechanism’s bar is located in the middle of the knife, not at the rear, which helps ensure that the lock effectively cannot be disengaged except through a deliberate action.

The FOX Zero 2.0 Desert Warrior also comes equipped with a pocket clip that enables tip-up carry for added convenience.
