After three years of dedicated research and development, RICHARD MILLE has transformed itself by introducing the RM 35-03, equipped with a new winding mechanism. Previously, the RM 35-02 already used a signature component of RICHARD MILLE's automatic movements—the variable geometry rotor. The new RM 35-03 introduces a new butterfly rotor, allowing the wearer to manually adjust the rotor's structure, changing the winding speed according to their lifestyle and activity level. This complex function is not only practical but also quite fun.

RICHARD MILLE's patented butterfly rotor offers the wearer the ability to manually alter the rotor's geometry, controlling the movement's winding according to their lifestyle and activity level.

The butterfly rotor consists of two weights made of grade 5 titanium and other metals. In the initial position, the weights cause a radial displacement of the center of gravity, generating the necessary torque to wind the mainspring. Simply pressing the button at the 7 o'clock position causes a dedicated gear train to unfold the two weights 180 degrees. The center of gravity then returns to the center, bringing the rotor to equilibrium, counteracting the winding force, and eliminating any over-winding force on the movement.

Pressing the button at the 7 o'clock position again causes the grade 5 titanium butterfly rotor to unfold. Once unfolded, the rotor's inertia changes, and it stops winding during movement. Pressing the button again will allow the rotor to resume its function, rewinding the movement.

When the button is pressed to switch modes (from the normal mode that winds the mainspring to the "Sports Mode" that pauses the rotor's movement), the wearer can feel the two weights on their wrist instantly separating. The wearer can check the rotor's ON or OFF status via the winding indicator at 6 o'clock on the dial. Furthermore, the RM 35-03 automatic watch is equipped with a function selector. Pressing the button at 2 o'clock easily switches between winding (W), neutral (N), and time-setting (H) modes.

The RM 35-03 boasts elegant and ergonomic lines and is available in two materials: a blue Quartz TPT® quartz fiber case with a white Quartz TPT® quartz fiber middle case; and a white Quartz TPT® quartz fiber and Carbon TPT® carbon fiber case with a Carbon TPT® carbon fiber middle case, featuring a grooved design on the case edge inspired by the RM 27-04 Rafael Nadal Tourbillon watch.

The fully skeletonized movement is fully visible through the sapphire crystal case back and crystal glass. The baseplate and bridges are crafted from grade 5 titanium and treated with gray plasma and PVD, enhancing the watch's striking visual impact. Skeletonized hands rotate along the outer edge of a bezel also made of micro-blasted grade 5 titanium, marking the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions. The bezel slopes inward towards the center, creating a deeper, more refined effect.
